Manton's Series 2 Pushrods, Chromoly, 5/16 diameter x .118 wall, Custom Length, 5/16 Ball Ends

Yes—a properly selected pushrod upgrade can improve valvetrain stability, durability, and the engine’s ability to follow its intended valve motion. Whether it adds measurable horsepower depends on how well the existing pushrods handle the application.

At Manton, we look at pushrods as part of the entire valvetrain. A hot rod, a diesel rebuild, and a competition engine may need very different pushrods, but the goal is the same: transmit motion accurately and survive the operating conditions.

The benefit might be recovering lift lost to deflection, maintaining control at higher RPM, improving tip wear, or helping expensive surrounding components last longer. A horsepower number alone does not tell the whole story.

  • Mild to Mid Performance

  • Mainly used for pushrod configurations that need to be produced in high volumes at low cost

  • Provides approximately 170,000 psi tensile strength

  • Hard Drawn 4130/4135 seamless chromoly tubing, the highest quality available from mills. Originally formulated for aerospace/aircraft use

  • These pushrods can be used in guide plate or shaft mount applications

Only our stocked Pushrod configurations are listed. If you need a custom length, please email us at Info@mantonpushrods.com Or contact us directly at 951-245-6565. Minimum order quantities and longer lead times will apply.

Series 1 (Up to 250 HP)

  • Application: Small engines (carts to Volkswagens) with low valve spring pressure.

  • Specs: 140,000 psi tensile strength (4130/4135 chromoly).

  • Notes: Not recommended for hardened guide plates or roller cams.

Series 2 (Guide Plate Compatible)

  • Application: Mild to mid-performance, high-volume/low-cost builds.

  • Specs: ~170,000 psi tensile strength (aerospace-grade hard-drawn seamless 4130/4135 chromoly).

  • Notes: Compatible with guide plates or shaft mount setups.

Series 3

  • Application: Mid to high-performance (Sportsman, Marine, Factory Performance).

  • Specs: 170,000 psi tensile strength (aerospace-grade hard-drawn seamless 4130/4135 chromoly).

  • Notes: Requires shaft or pedestal style rocker arms (not for guide plate use).

Series 4 (Guide Plate Compatible)

  • Application: Mid to high-performance engines with guide plates.

  • Specs: ~180,000 psi tensile strength (aerospace-grade hard-drawn seamless 4130/4135 chromoly).

  • Notes: Melonite™ processed for superior wear resistance and durability.

Series 5

  • Application: Extreme setups (Cup, Top Fuel, Pro Stock, LS Series) using NA, forced induction, or nitrous.

  • Specs: 275,000 psi tensile strength via proprietary heat-treated 4130/4135 chromoly.

  • Notes: Hand-crafted with custom tip options; requires shaft or pedestal rockers.
