The Manton “I-Beam rocker arm” integrates standard features aimed at enhancing strength, stiffness, stability, and reliability crucial for demanding applications.
The I-beam rocker design, rooted in history with early Chrysler Hemis, remains a preferred choice for its robustness. Dating back to 1918, I-beam shapes have been widely adopted for their inherent strength, comparable to structures like bridges and buildings.
Manton’s roller tip I-beam rocker arm achieves an exceptional strength-to-weight ratio, crafted from top-grade Billet steel and heat-treated for durability. Incorporating “nitride” Tool Steel rocker arm shafts enhances resistance to breakage.
Designed with a high-load bushing and pressurized oiling, this rocker arm ensures efficient oil distribution, reducing friction and enhancing spring stability. By eliminating needle bearings, it reduces valve train noise on the Dyno or Spintron, improving overall performance.
Shim washers between stands and the rocker arm body facilitate precise roller alignment with the valve tip, accommodating slight movements post-service. Adjusting these shims controls oil spillage, tailoring oil pressure and velocity to suit specific engine requirements.
Further enhancements include expanded loading areas at the pushrod and roller interface to withstand higher RPMs and abuse. Upgraded to 3/8 ball adjusting screws, typically used in Top Fuel and Blown Alcohol engines, this setup improves oil retention during startup, preventing galling.
The rocker arm features a large .571″ roller wheel with a .275″ pin at the nose, capable of handling high engine speeds and cylinder pressures exceeding 24,000 psi and 12,000 RPM.
Initially designed for the Noonan LS Edge Engine Platform, this rocker arm also serves as a potential replacement for T & D or Crower rocker arms in other applications.
